Publisher Updates

From Publisher’s Lunch:

Jonathan Cape Children‘s, which has been publishing new picture books and backlist titles by Roald Dahl and Joan Aiken, will now publish new fiction, led Random House Children’s UK publisher Annie Eaton. In a statement she said she would acquire “some very special future children’s classics.”  RHCP m.d. Philippa Dickinson added: “Annie has an enviable track record for publishing established literary greats as well as debut fiction. She has a knack for seeking out new names, and nurturing them to become commercial and award winning successes, as can be seen with Wonder by R J Palacio and Itch by Simon Mayo. I am very pleased that her role will now involve curating a new strand for Jonathan Cape Children’s Books.”

Meanwhile Penguin Australia announced it will rename its Books for Children & Young Adults as Penguin Young Readers. Publishing Director Laura Harris said “It’s an exciting time to be in children’s publishing, one where creativity, innovation, dedication, healthy curiosity and storytelling in all its forms are embraced.” Among the 2013 publishing plans for the renamed program include the launch of a number of new series for young readers, a partnership with Sydney based Brickman Mob, for the digital release of the Animal Ark app, and new works from Australian children’s book bestsellers Graeme Base, Alison Lester, Mem Fox and Morris Gleitzman.
