Writing in a Writer’s House — Year-Long Novel-Writing Workshop

The Pearl Buck House has posted info about the year-long workshop I’ll be conducting there on their website. Here’s the info and the link.

Author and editor, Anita Nolan will lead a year-long workshop taking participants through the novel-writing process. We will meet for 6 teaching workshops. The workshop is suitable for all novel writers who are writing manuscripts for adult and young adult readers.

Meetings will be held the fourth Saturday of the following months from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Session One: (January 28th) Come with a plot idea or a character in mind, or just a desire to write a novel. We will discuss brainstorming, plotting, characterizations, and point of view, formatting, writing a pitch and a synopsis before writing the manuscript.
Session Two: ( February 25th) Participants can submit their first pages in advance for an instructor critique. We’ll discuss issues found in those first pages to illustrate things done well or common problems. We’ll discuss what first chapters should include.
Session Three: ( April 28th) Showing, not telling, voice, handling dialogue, tags.
Session Four: ( June 23rd) Turning points, transitions, subplots, writing in scenes.
Session Five: (September 22nd) Conflict, adding tension on every page, backstory.
Session Six: (November 17) What’s next? Wrapping it all up.

$25.00 per session on line OR  pay $120.00 in advance and receive the following extras:

March 31st  and July 21st. Morning write-ins. Spend the morning working on your manuscript. No lesson these sessions, but instructor will be available to help you over hurdles.

Unlimited participation in the Yahoo Group that will be formed to exchange ideas and work out problems, and keep track of participant’s progress.

Please register by January 15th.
