Colors, Textures, Shapes Thesaurus

If you haven’t visited The Bookshelf Muse’s website, you’re missing out.  There’s a wealth of information there.

One (of several) thesaurus’s there is the Colors, Textures, Shapes Thesaurus, that has words that are associated with a certain color, texture, shape.  The idea is to look through the list to spark ideas for similes and metaphors.  Here’s one example for Gray:

Real World Comparisons:

Light:

Gray hair
Ashes
Fog
Cobwebs
Brain
Smoke

Dark:

Storm clouds
Streets
Pencil lead
Elephants
Charcoal
Cavities

These are just a few of the examples for just one color.

The Bookshelf Muse is a great resource. Here’s the link: The Bookshelf Muse
