NJ SCBWI magazine Sprouts Upcoming Issue

I’m the Executive Editor of Sprouts, the magazine of the NJ SCBWI.  This is a high-quality, four-color, 28-page magazine issued three times a year that contains interviews with editors, agents, authors and illustrators, how-to articles on writing and illustrating.  It includes an illustrators’ showcase as well (a great opportunity for illustrators to get their work in front of editors/agents/art directors)

I’m currently proofreading the upcoming issue, which contains:

An interview with new agent Mary Kole, Andrea Brown Literary

An interview with Nancy Viau, author of Samantha Hansen Has Rocks in her Head

The second of a three-part series by Jane Kirkland on school visits (if you haven’t heard Jane speak, she’s great!)  She owns Take a Walk Books and has lots of great ideas, not only about school visits but about getting your books into schools.

An article about the bumpy road to publication by new author Cyn Balog, whose first book, Fairy Tale, was released this year.

An article for PB authors about when–and when not–to use art notes, by Hallee Adelman

An article on Richard Peck’s talk at the NJ SCBWI conference by Charlotte Bennardo

An article on a publicist’s role by Yvonne Ventresca

An article on what a first chapter should contain, by me.

And more.  (I don’t have all the pages in front of me yet, and I’m not sure what else was squeezed in)

Sprouts is a great publication, and we’re always looking for submissions.  As an added bonus for those who are published in it, we send copies to about 50 publishing professionals (agents, editors, art directors) each issue.  Here’s a link to the subscription form, if you’re interested:
